EMI Silicones with Shorter Lead Times and Better Physical Properties

Are you looking for an alternative to BISCO® EC-2130 EMI silicone from Rogers Corporation? Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) makes a comparable material that has shorter lead times and better physical properties. SSP-502-30 is a 30-durometer, nickel-graphite silicone that has the same hardness and uses the same type of conductive filler as BISCO® EC-2130. The lead times for SSP-502-30 are just three to four weeks, and sheets of our material are available with a conductive PSA for peel-and-stick installation. SSP also supplies a 40-durometer nickel-graphite silicone that’s available in roll stock.

Volume Resistivity, Tensile Strength, and Elongation Percentage

SSP-502-30 is very electrically conductive and provides reliable shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI). SSP’s data sheet for this 30-durometer, nickel-graphite filled elastomer reports that it has a volume resistivity of 0.125 ohm-cm and a tensile strength of 182 psi. Rogers data sheet for BISCO® EC-2130 indicates that its material has a volume resistivity of <1.00 ohm-cm and a tensile strength of 60 psi. SSP-502-30 also has an elongation percentage of 900% vs. 50% for BISCO® EC-2130. As their respective data sheets indicate, both materials were tested according to ASTM test standards.

Conductive PSA for 15” x 20” and 10” x 20 Sheets 

Specialty Silicone Products supplies SSP-502-30 as both a ready-to-mold compound and a fully-cured conductive sheet stock. Sheets of SSP-502-30 are available in various sizes, including 15” x 20” and 10” x 20”. Sheets in these popular sizes are available with an electrically conductive pressure-sensitive (PSA) adhesive for EMI gaskets that are easy-to-install and that provide dependable electrical conductivity. SSP-502-30 sheeting can be cut into flat gaskets using a variety of conversion methods and supports thinner, smaller, and lighter-weight designs just like BISCO® EC-2130.

Nickel-Graphite EMI Silicone in Roll Stock

SSP also supplies SSP-502-40, a 40-durometer nickel-graphite silicone, as a ready-to-mold compound, conductive sheets, and as continuous rolls. With our fast, efficient roll manufacturing process, SSP can make the equivalent of 600 15” x 20” sheets in about a week. SSP can also supply you with EMI roll materials that are thin as .010” or as thick as .125”. Roll stock supports custom sizes, higher volumes, and larger gaskets. SSP-502-40 provides proven levels of EMI shielding and has been independently tested to the MIL-DTL-83528 standard for electrically-conductive elastomeric EMI gasketing.
