The Silicone Snowman

The Silicone Snowman

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in snowy Ballston Spa, New York, where Specialty Silicone Products is located. Several recent storms have covered the ground with the white stuff, but you can enjoy winter with us from anywhere in the world – thanks to The Silicone Snowman. He consists entirely of products that we make at SSP and has 11 numbered sections, each of which you’ll see on the image that accompanies this holiday blog.

1. Hat

The snowman’s hat was cut from a sheet of silver-aluminum filled fluorosilicone that meets MIL-DTL-83528, Type D requirements.

2. Head

The head is made of EMI cord stock that was cut and bonded into an EMI conductive O-ring. The silicone material is a silver-aluminum-filled product.

3. Eyes

The two eyes were molded into EMI conductive O-rings from silver-aluminum filled silicone that meets MIL-DTL-83528, Type B requirements.

4. Nose

The nose is made of a red, high-strength, military-grade 50 Shore A silicone that meets AA-59588, Class 3B, Grade 50 requirements.

5. Scarf

The scarf, a flat extruded strip for EMI/RFI gasketing, is a silver-aluminum filled fluorosilicone that meets MIL-DTL-83528, Type D requirements.

6. Middle Section

The middle of the snowman is a nickel-graphite filled silicone that is molded into a custom profile for EMI shielding and environmental sealing.

7. Top and Bottom Buttons

The top and bottom buttons are 11-mm silicone/PTFE septa chromatography closures that are used in laboratory settings for various industries.

8. Middle Button

The middle button is a 20-mm silicone/PTFE closure that’s used for gas and liquid chromatography headspace analysis.

9. Arms

The snowman’s arms were slit into 1-inch wide reels from a master roll of USP Class VI medical-grade silicone with a durometer of 10 Shore A.

10. Fingers

The fingers are extruded EMI cord stock made from a silver-copper filled silicone that meets MIL-DTL-83528, Type A requirements.

11. Bottom Section

Finally, the bottom of the snowman was cut from a military-grade fluorosilicone that meets the requirements of MIL-DTL-25988, Class 1 and 2, Grade 60

We hope you’ve enjoyed The Silicone Snowman and wish everyone Happy Holidays!
