Faces of SSP: Meet Chuck Geysen, Quality Manager

Faces of SSP: Meet Chuck Geysen, Quality Manager

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) is pleased to introduce Chuck Geysen as our new Quality Manager. Chuck is responsible for driving the culture of quality at our Ballston Spa, New York (USA) manufacturing company and will focus on updating and improving SSP’s Quality Management System (QMS). This includes a strong emphasis on effectiveness and key metrics, adherence to ISO 9001:2015 requirements, and root cause/corrective actions to achieve year-over-year reductions in non-conformances. Chuck will manage the Quality Department and staff, ensuring effective quality control processes.

A native of the Hudson Valley, Chuck earned an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz. After working as an electronics technicians for a few years, he became a field auditor with Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a global safety certification company. During his time with UL, Chuck learned about many different industries. He also laid the foundation for a career in quality and process auditing. After UL, Chuck became the Quality Manager for Hollinee Filtration, a manufacturer of HEPA air filtration systems in Newburgh, NY.

At Hollinee, Chuck developed a Quality Department and Testing Laboratory from the ground up, learned about the criteria for an ISO 9001 QMS, and quickly became certified as a Lead ISO Auditor. Under his leadership, Hollinee was certified for operations according to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. Later, when an acquisition closed the facility, Chuck worked as an independent quality consultant. His achievements included restoring TS-16949 certification for a Tier 2 automotive supplier in Ohio and developing a QMS for a medical supplier in California so that the company could obtain ISO 9001:2008 certification.

Chuck then relocated to New York State’s Capital Region to serve as the Quality Manager for SEPSA North America, a Schenectady manufacturer of railcar electrical equipment. At SEPSA, he was promoted to Senior Manager of Operations and responsible for Production, Quality, and the warehouse. Later, he joined Momentive Performance Materials (MPM) in Waterford, NY in a Corporate Supplier Quality role. During his 10 years with MPM, Chuck was responsible for developing global processes for supplier evaluation, auditing, managing supplier non-conformances, and continuous improvement initiatives.

As SSP’s new Quality Manager, Chuck joins a quality-driven company with innovative products that are designed to meet demanding specifications such as MIL-DTL-83528 for EMI/RFI shielding and USP Class VI for medical devices and equipment. When he’s not busy managing SSP’s Quality Department, Chuck enjoys home improvement projects. He also plays the guitar, enjoys the outdoors, and spends time cooking and baking. A devoted husband to his wife of 20 years and the father of two teenage sons, Chuck appreciates the family-style atmosphere at SSP.

“I really enjoy rolling up my sleeves to help an operation improve its rigor around Quality,” Chuck says. “The team at SSP have provided a warm and welcoming environment to do just that – for which I’m very grateful.”
