SSP Heads to Germany for Electronica
Next week, Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) will be at Electronica, the world’s largest tradeshow for the electronics industry. From November 8 to 11, SSP will showcase its innovative elastomers in Hall A6, Booth 329 at the Munich Trade Fair Centre in Munich, Germany. SSP’s SpecShield™ family of products provides EMI/RFI shielding, electrical conductivity, and environmental sealing for today’s electronic designs. Applications include aerospace, automotive, industrial, medical, military, and consumer electronics.
Cost-Effective EMI Elastomers
SpecShield™ silicones are filled with metal or metal-coated particles for use in conductive elastomeric shielding gaskets. To help you balance EMI/RFI gasket costs with shielding performance, SSP supplies these elastomers with silver, silver-coated, and non-silver fill types. To support gasket manufacturability, SpecShield™ EMI/RFI silicones come as uncured moldable compounds, compression-molded sheets, and continuous rolls. Extruded SpecShield™ elastomers are also available.
Traditionally, shielding silicones have been filled with silver particles. Silver is extremely conductive and provides excellent EMI/RFI shielding, but this precious metal is also expensive and subject to price volatility. That’s why SSP developed shielding silicones like its 502 series with a nickel-coated graphite fill. SSP-502 Series silicones cost significantly less than silver-filled materials, but provide shielding levels that are comparable to silver-coated fills. SSP supplies many other innovative EMI elastomers, too.
Reliable Shielding and Sealing
From ultra-soft silicones (30 Shore A) to higher-durometer products, SSP has the shielding silicones you need for today’s thinner electronic designs. SpecShield™ elastomers include ultra-thin sheets and rolls (.009” thick), ArmouRFI™ conductive fabric-reinforced materials, flame-retardant silicones, and fluorosilicones that combine shielding with solvent and jet fuel resistance. Passivated products for increased corrosion resistance are also available.
SpecShield™ materials have been independently tested and are ideal for aerospace, automotive, medical, military, telecommunications, and other demanding applications. For the defense industry, SSP offers shielding elastomers (including two QPL listed products) that meet the requirements of MIL-DTL-83528, a U.S. military specification for conductive elastomeric shielding gaskets. Commercial applications for SpecShield EMI/RFI silicones include medical devices, automotive electronics, kiosks, and touchscreens.
