Faces of SSP: Meet Matt Lampo, Product Manager

Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) is pleased to announce that Matt Lampo has joined our rapidly growing company as product manager. Matt’s proven ability to get things done complement his professional experience and technical expertise. For SSP’s customers, Matt’s efforts will mean faster times to market,  speedier deliveries, improved quality, and greater consistency of final product. His initial focus will be on the Aerospace, Defense and Industrial side of the business, but he’s also responsible for laboratory products from concept to commercialization.

A native of Oneonta, New York, Matt is a 2001 graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. His concentration was in thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics. Upon graduation, Matt joined Northrup Grumman and worked for the defense contractor in Baltimore, Maryland for four years. As a member of the Electronics Systems Division, he specialized in thermal analysis for airborne radar systems.

Matt’s next career stop was at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, a research and development (R&D) facility in Niskayuna, New York that was a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin. There, he worked as a thermal analyst on advanced nuclear reactor designs. A year later, he joined GE Power, a business unit of General Electric, in Schenectady. Matt started as an application engineer, became a technical leader, and served as product manager for steam turbines during the final three years of his 13-year tenure.

As Matt explains, his larger career “evolved” and “progressed” during his many years with GE Power. As a product manager, he was responsible for benchmarking the business unit against competitors, increasing profit margins, and developing product strategy to drive increased market share. In moving from purely engineering responsibilities towards what he calls “the front of the business,” Matt acquired deep market knowledge and received invaluable on-the-job training. All of these experiences will serve him well.

In his new role with SSP, Matt will refine and add rigor to the new product introduction (NPI) process. An important part of his job involves working with stakeholders in quality, engineering, R&D, and sales. In managing what he calls the “risk vs. reward process,” he’ll use his well-developed negotiating skills to achieve optimal outcomes. SSP’s customers will realize “improved response times and clear communication of SSP product capabilities when they ask for something new.”
